Art Thinking Lounge

Hakuhodo Inc. x Ars Electronica Futurelab

Art & Business Platform

2024

The Art Thinking Lounge, created by Hakuhodo Inc. and the Ars Electronica, is a platform aimed at transforming economy through art. It provides a space where businesses can exhibit their prototypes next to artists, continuously reshaping them into society-oriented innovations.
The Art Thinking Lounge was first shown at the Ars Electronica Festival 2024 and welcomes newcomers to Art Thinking - a future-oriented methodology utilized by the Ars Electronica Futurelab to address societal challenges by encouraging diverse perspectives, creative questioning, and open dialogue. It transforms abstract ideas into practical strategies that drive innovation.
The space offers insights into Art Thinking tools developed by Ars Electronica Futurelab and Hakuhodo Inc. In 2024, I had the opportunity to support the conceptualization and curation of the overall framework of the Art Thinking Lounge. I also co-created two Art Thinking tools—the Art Thinking ABC and the Art Thinking Harvesting Kit—designed to help people understand the methodology’s background and encourage them to apply it themselves. These tools invite visitors to connect key Art Thinking concepts to inspiring artworks during the Ars Electronica Festival.
Additionally, industries have the opportunity to showcase innovations that benefit society and to engage in thought-provoking conversations through curated networking formats such as the Dialogue Breakfast, where they connect with experts from their fields—as well as with artists, activists, and citizens. One such prototype was Re-Writing the Script of AI SPEC by Mitsubishi Electric, Hakuhodo Inc., and the Ars Electronica Futurelab. This project applied my Re-Writing the Script methodology as a way to invite citizens to engage with the work. I consulted Mitsubishi Electric on how to design an installation that would make their three AI comics accessible to festival visitors and facilitated a Dialogue Breakfast for them on the topic.

Moreover, artists with a strong focus on co-designing future innovations in collaboration with industry present their work in the exhibition.

The Art Thinking Lounge aims to engage individuals from all backgrounds in experimenting with ways to shape a better future society. With growing interest in Japan, Hakuhodo Inc. and the Ars Electronica Futurelab are exploring the possibility of hosting pop-up events across the country.
